Ginger for Skin

Ginger is a herb that has been used as a spice since times
Ginger for skin gives numerous benefits
immemorial. Also known as ginger root, it is basically the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale belonging to the family Zingiberaceae which also includes turmeric, cardamom and galangal. Ginger root has a rather irregular shape comprising of bulbous little joints from which small bumps grow.

Fresh ginger root has a grey outer surface whereas inner flesh ranges from ivory, creamy white to pale greenish yellow in colour depending upon the variety. Over-matured roots generally contain fibrils running through its centre. Ginger has a peppery flavour with a hint of lemon and sharp aroma. Its pungent, spicy and aromatic smell can be attributed to the presence of essential oils and phenolic compounds such as gingerols and shogaols.

Due to its strong and spicy aroma, ginger occupies an important place as a spice, delicacy and even medicine. Apart from being used fresh, it is dried, powdered or pickled or used in the form of juice or oil. Ginger tea is a favourite in Indian household and a great remedy for battling cold and flu. It has been recognized by Ayurveda due to its medicinal properties. Nowadays, it is also being used in sweet foods in Western cuisine such as ginger ale, ginger snaps, ginger bread, ginger biscuits and ginger cake.

Ginger is considered as the ‘chest of medicine’ in Ayurveda due to its various health benefits. Its powerful therapeutic and preventive effects make it usable in the treatment of various ailments.

Skin Benefits of Ginger:

In addition to its medicinal value, ginger has been used in skincare as well. It is often used in a number of commercial products to improve skin. Ginger juice is often applied topically to treat several skin issues. Given below are the benefits of ginger for skin:

Anti-ageing Benefits:
Ginger contains around 40 antioxidant compounds that protect against ageing. It improves the appearance of your skin by removing toxins and stimulating circulation, resulting in delivery of more nutrients to the skin. The antioxidants prevent damage from free radicals, thus preserving the youthful appearance of the skin. It improves elasticity making your skin more firm and youthful. In this way, it slows down the signs of ageing.

Soothes Burns:
Applying fresh ginger juice can give relief from the pain as well as heal burnt skin by restoring it to the natural position. You can also rub fresh ginger slice on the skin 2 to 3 times a day to fade the scars within 6 to 12 weeks. Ensure to use a fresh ginger slice each time for topical application.

Clears Blemishes and Acne:
Being a powerful antiseptic and cleansing agent, ginger helps to keep the skin clean, smooth and free of blemishes. Besides, it also invigorates and stimulates your skin. It is also the best natural acne fighting weapon as it minimizes the rate of acne formation and eruption by killing and clearing the acne causing bacteria.

Treatment of Hypopigmented Scars (white scars):
Hypopigmented scars occur when the skin loses its pigmentation and are generally white or much lighter than the actual skin tone. Ginger can reduce the appearance of hypopigmented skin to a significant extent. All you need to do is cut a sliver of fresh ginger and dab it on the hypopigmented areas and leave it for some time. You will see slight improvement within a week or two. However, this should be done every day without fail for noticeable results.

Tones Skin:
Ginger is known for its aphrodisiac, antioxidant and toning properties which contribute to radiant skin. You can prepare a simple mask by mixing 2 grated gingers with 2 tablespoons honey and 1 teaspoon lemon juice and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes. Apply it on your face and rinse with cool water after 30 minutes. This will nourish and soften your skin as well as prevent ageing.

Beauty Products Tips Makeup Care Style

Get Gorgeous in a Flash. Whether you have an hour to primp for a party or just five minutes, we have the ultimate roundup of quick tricks and the hottest beauty moves.

40 Beauty products tips makeup care style;

1. Go for contrasting lids and tips. Pair a smoldering eye look with a crisp off-white nail polish. The combo looks elegant, plus you won't have to worry about your manicure matching your clothes. Shadows we love: Bobbi Brown Eye Kohl Palette, $37, MAC Eyeshadow in Print, $13, and Chanel Basic Eye Color in Argents, $46.

2. Get tan and toned. Look like a golden goddess by mixing liquid bronzer with a firming body cream, then massage it into your arms. It'll temporarily tighten your skin and give it a glow, says Scarlett Messina, a Pennsylvania-based makeup artist.

3. Perfect your complexion. Camouflage any pimples by applying a yellow-based cover-up to counteract the redness. Use a concealer brush to pat it on precisely, then blend the edges with your ring finger, says Tracy Brennan, owner of Kalologie, a beauty boutique in Los Angeles.

4. Pump up the volume. For oomphy, tousled strands, try this trick from Nathaniel Hawkins, a celeb hairstylist who has worked with the Olsen twins: When you're finished blow-drying your hair, switch to the cool setting, flip your head over, and aim the nozzle around randomly for a few minutes. "This creates pockets of air between your locks so they look extra full," he says.

5. Sweeten up your cheeks. Create a foxy flush with a deep berry powder blush. Use a fluffy brush to swirl it in small, circular motions over the apples of your cheeks and back toward your hairline, says NYC makeup artist Greg Vaughan. This will blend the color evenly. Try Cargo Blush in Mallorca, $22.

6. Make your gloss multitask. Keep a pearly white lip gloss in your desk drawer to slick not only on your lips but also on your brow bones and cheekbones as highlighter, says Pati Dubroff, an L.A.-based celebrity makeup artist. A universal hue she loves: Dior DiorKiss in Sorbet Meringue, $19.

7. Rework your hair flair. A glittery accessory adds instant glamour to any hairstyle. If you forget to bring one to work, use a brooch from your sweater.

8. Fake a gorgeous glow. Mix one part foundation with one part liquid illuminator, and then use your fingertips to massage it all over your face, says Brennan. Try American Beauty All Over Face Glow in Gold Glow, $15, and Mark Duotint in Double Rose, $6. Top it off with a dusting of a light-reflecting shimmer powder.

9. Sweeten your handshake. Since you're going to be shaking hands and mingling, mist your fragrance on your palms so that your touch will release a small amount of scent throughout the night.

10. Work a sexy updo. Starting with dry locks, tease the hair around your crown, then flip your head upside down and mist the underneath layers with hair spray, says Patrick Melville, creative director of Warren-Tricomi salons. Flip back up, then gather all of your hair — except the front section — into a loose bun and secure with bobby pins. Now mist those face-framing pieces with hair spray and use a round brush to blow dry them so they're sleek. Insert a sparkly hair accessory a few inches above one of your ears.

11. Prep your lids. Before you apply any eye makeup, blend a creamy concealer onto your lids and into the inner corners of your eyes. This will give your shadow a base to stick to and conceal any redness.

12. Score perfect party legs. If you don't have enough time for a full in-the-shower shaving session, just smooth baby oil onto your legs before you take the razor to them, says Dana Minkin, owner of the Gloss Day Spa in New York City. "The oil protects your skin and will leave your legs extra satiny."

13. Revive your manicure. Slick a shiny, clear top coat over whatever polish you have on your nails. It'll give them a glossy finish and prevent nicks so your mani will look freshly done, says Sunshine Outing, a nail technician at Haven spa in New York City.

14. Go for a smoldering stare. A smoky eye effect is a classic night-out look. To do it: Line the rim of your upper and lower lashes with a black eyeliner, says Charlie Green, an NYC makeup artist who works with Heidi Klum. Now use a stiff brush to smudge the pencil into your lashes. Finish by sweeping a dark shadow onto your lids.

15. Nix a shiny nose. Left your powder compact at home? Tone down a glaring T zone with a piece of one of those toilet-seat covers in the ladies' room. It'll act as a blotting paper, says Mary Lisa, a makeup artist at the Julien Farel salon in NYC.

16. Flip up your eye fringe. Don't have an eyelash curler on hand? You can use a sturdy plastic spoon instead, says Mary Lisa. Just press the curved end into your eye socket so the edge flips up your lashes, then swipe on your mascara.

17. Make a hair headband. Here's an easy-to-do style that'll make loose locks look superchic. First, blow-dry your strands so they're straight, then create a side part, says Enzo Angileri, a Los Angeles stylist who works with Charlize Theron and Lucy Liu. Now pull the front two inches of your hair taut below the upper layers and secure them together with an elastic. Spritz with hair spray. He recommends Matrix Freeze Trix, $12.95.

18. Bedazzle your body. Enhance your cleavage by dusting a shimmery body powder over the tops of your breasts. And to prevent the sparkles from rubbing off on your outfit (and your date's shirt), first apply a body lotion so the powder has something to cling to, says Green. She uses Victoria's Secret All That Shimmers Body Powder and Brush, $27.

19. Cop the ultimate blowout. The secret to perfectly straight strands: After you're finished blow-drying your hair, flip your head over. While you're upside down, use a flatiron to smooth out any kinky pieces in the underneath sections of your hair, says Angileri.

20. Pare down your loot. If you don't have enough room in your purse for all of your primpers, just carry a balm like Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, $15. You can use it as a lip gloss, a cuticle balm or a face highlighter.

21. Scent your strands. Put a small amount of an oil-based fragrance on your fingertips and then run them through your hair, says Sarah Horowitz-Thran, founder of The House of Creative Scentualization. Oil will linger in your locks longer than a traditional spray version, and it won't dry out your do.

22. Enhance your natural hue. To pump up your hair color and add tons of shine to your tresses, use a temporary color-depositing conditioner before a big event, says Hawkins. To get the best benefit, let it sit on just-washed hair for about 15 minutes. The results will last through a few shampoos.

23. Tune up tired tresses. If you're productless and your hair looks frizzy, wet your hands, then smooth your palms over your strands. The water will reactivate any products you applied in the a.m.

24. Soften your heels. Get your feet in shape for strappy sandals by first sloughing them in the shower with a pumice stone, says Stephanie Sakoff, creator of Lucky Chick bath products. Then slather on an ultrathick foot lotion and put on a pair of cotton socks to help the moisturizer soak in while you finish getting ready. Try Lucky Chick Spearmint Foot Fetish Foot and Leg Cream, $20.

25. Get 24-karat eyes. The perfect complement to dramatic red lips: glistening gold eyes. To get the look, use your finger to blend a cream eye shadow onto lids. If you're pale, go for a light champagne tone; if your skin is medium or olive, opt for a bronze color, says Vaughan.

26. Glam up your liner. Instead of using a basic eyeliner, go for one that's spiked with flecks of shimmer, says NYC makeup artist Paula Dorf. She created Paula Dorf Eye Color Glimmer in Mambo, $18, to make any eye color look extra sparkly.

27. Restyle your pony. For an easy, elegant tress effect, use a fine-tooth comb to tease your roots at the crown of your head. Then gather your hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic, says Spresa Bojkovic, owner of the Damian West salon in NYC. Pull out a one-inch piece of hair, wrap it around the elastic and secure the end underneath the ponytail with a bobby pin.

28. Look pretty in pictures. Avoid a shiny-looking complexion caused by a camera flash by applying a mattifying lotion to your T zone before you put on your makeup, says Vaughan. It'll keep oil at bay all night. One we like: Estée Lauder Clear Difference Advanced Oil-Control Hydrator, $32.50.

29. Spray it on. To give your skin a sexy sheen in seconds, fill a spray bottle with a dry body oil and mist it all over right after you shower, says Minkin. We like Nuxe Multi-Usage Dry Oil, $25.

30. Pick the perfect product. You really need to keep only one styler at the office for postwork primping, says Richard Corio, a stylist at the Sally Hershberger salon in NYC. A quick guide depending on your hair type: Curly-haired girls should go for a texturizing cream. If you have straight strands, try a smoothing serum. And short locks will get the most help from a nonsticky gel.

31. Place your scent strategically. Before you go to work in the morning, mist your bra and undies with your favorite fragrance. The perfume will adhere to the fabric and last until you get undressed. This way, you don't have to lug your fragrance around in your bag.

32. Turn on your radiance. No need to wash your face and start a new makeup job from scratch. Instead, pat a light face moisturizer over your day makeup, says Troy Surratt, NYC makeup artist. "It'll instantly give you a fresh, dewy look." Then go ahead and do your touching up.

33. Have some hair foresight. If you know about your p.m. plans in advance, try to wake up a bit earlier that morning to give your mane a supersleek blowout before work, says Corio. "This will ensure that it still looks good later on, whether you want to put it up or just wear it down."

34. Rock red-hot lips. For a sexy lip effect, a scarlet pout is the way to go. After applying the lipstick, layer a matching lip liner over it. This will fix any uneven edges and give your lip color a long-lasting, velvety finish.

When you finally manage to get out of bed, heed this advice to hide the telltale signs of a late night out.

35. Fix stinky strands. If your locks smell like a bar, rub a fabric-softener sheet along the length of your hair, starting at your roots, says senior stylist Elvin Arvelo, co-owner of the Julien Farel salon in NYC.

36. Fake awake eyes. To create the illusion of well-rested peepers, use a flesh-toned pencil to line the lower inner rims of your eyes, says Dorf. "This area is usually bloodshot when you're tired, and the pencil will offset the redness so your eyes look bright."

37. Perk up your skin. Drinking alcohol can make your complexion look dull. Use a moisturizing face mask to pump up your glow, says Gabrielle Ophals, co-owner of Haven spa in NYC. Keep one in the fridge so it'll also wake you up when you use it.

38. Fudge clean locks. If there's no time to shampoo, dip a makeup brush into baby powder (or matte bronzer if your hair is dark) and sweep it over your roots, says Jet, owner of the Jet Rhys salon, in San Diego.

39. Ditch dark circles. To camouflage undereye circles, use a salmon-hued concealer. The pinkish shade counteracts bluish undertones.

40. Befriend your bedhead. Instead of trying to wrestle messy morning-after hair into submission, work with the rumpled texture, says Hawkins. Just scrunch some curl-enhancing mousse into your dry locks to tame frizz and bring out your natural waves. He prefers Tresemmé Curl-Enhancing Mousse, $4.

Benefits of Sauna and Steam Room on Skin

Benefits of Sauna and Steam Room
Provided a physician deems you healthy enough to take one,
saunas are very valuable for your skin. According to the website Steam-Sauna-Benefits.com, enjoying a sauna can relieve tension and stress and strengthen the immune system. Beyond those values, Steam-Sauna-Benefits.com lauds saunas for their ability to bolster the appearance of skin: Taking a sauna can improve circulation, better the reproduction of collagen and deeply cleanse and rejuvenate your skin.

Improved Circulation

Steam-Sauna-Benefits.com notes the ideal body temperature is 98.6 degrees F. When you get into a sauna, blood circulation and sweat production are dramatically increased. Dr. Lawrence Wilson, researcher of sauna benefits and author of "Sauna Therapy for Detoxification and Healing," states, “Heating the body several degrees causes greatly increased circulation as the body attempts to maintain its basal temperature. This helps to dislodge toxins.” The increased blood circulation draws more oxygen and nutrients to the skin's surface. Added oxygen and nutrients leave your skin looking healthy and moisturized.

Loose Skin After Weight Loss

How to Tighten Loose Skin After Weight Loss. From extra skin under the arms to a hanging pouch around the stomach, loose skin can pose an embarrassing problem, especially if weight loss has been achieved rapidly.

In this article you’ll learn why skin gets loose, how to tighten loose skin after fat loss, and you’ll also find out which creams, medical procedures, nutrition tactics and exercises will successfully tighten loose skin.

Why Skin Gets Loose After Weight Loss
Since it has to stretch as we move, grow, and--as in the case of weight loss--shrink, skin is an incredibly elastic living organ. Yes, that’s right, skin is not just one big piece of rubber that covers the entire body, but is instead an organ, and just like all the other organs in your body, it is comprised of cells.

Different layers of your skin have different types of cells, and though the skin cells on the outer part of your skin (the epidermis) are constantly being lost and replaced with new cells, the skin cells under the epidermis are a bit more permanent. These layers of the skin, called the dermis and subdermis, are made up of elastic connective tissues, fibers, blood vessels and all sorts of components that can stretch or contract depending on how they’re treated.

What Happens to Your Skin When You Lose Weight?
When you lose weight, and especially when you lose weight very quickly, these elastic components of your skin not only lose the layers of fat that keep them stretched out over your body, but they also don’t have much time for their elasticity to adapt to your new shape.

In addition to weight loss, age, poor nutrition, dehydration, excessive sun exposure, and smoking can all affect the elasticity of the skin and give you that elephant-like appearance you probably don’t want.

How to Tighten Loose Skin After Weight Loss
As you lose fat and your loose skin begins to appear, the first rule is: don’t panic! Because it is a living organ, your skin will slowly return to a shape that fits your new body. But since that process can take up to two years, here are steps you can take to make your skin tighten more quickly:

Tip #1: Don’t Lose Weight Too Quickly
In addition to weight loss, age, poor nutrition, dehydration, excessive sun exposure, and smoking can all affect the elasticity of the skin.

Crash diets and excessive amounts of time spent exercising can rapidly shed both muscle and fat, resulting in a double-whammy on your skin--the supportive underlying muscular structure that holds skin against your body is lost, as is the fat that keeps the skin stretched out.

Quick and dirty tip for not losing weight too quickly: Aim for 1-2 pounds of fat loss per week, and make sure your weight loss program includes weight lifting so that you do not lose lean muscle.

Tip #2: Stay Hydrated
Loose skin after weight loss stay hydrated
Attend to your hydration needs. Water is a crucial component of maintaining skin elasticity. From both food and drink, you should be taking in at least two liters of water each day.

Tip #3: Eat Properly
Two necessary ingredients that keep skin plump and elastic are collagen and elastin. Protein-rich foods such as cottage cheese, milk, legumes, tofu, beans, seeds, nuts, and fish all contain collagen and elastin forming components, as well as oils to help maintain healthy skin.

Quick and dirty protein tip: For optimum absorption, squeeze 100-200 calories of these protein sources in immediately after your workout.

Tip #4: Take Care of Your Skin
Nourish and care for your skin. Daily exfoliation can help to remove dead skin cells and increase skin circulation. A hot bath with sea salts and minerals can improve skin tone. Skin tightening creams with herbal formulas and ingredients such as aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, yeast extract, soy protein, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin A can help to hydrate and increase collagen and elastin formation in skin.

Stay away from harsh detergents, such a sulfates in soaps, shampoos and dishwashing liquids, limit your sun exposure and stay away from tanning booths, and limit your exposure to hot and chlorinated water—all of these things will decrease skin elasticity.

Quick and dirty tip: If you swim for fitness, use soap and shampoos that are specially designed to remove chlorine.

When to Consider Surgery for Loose Skin
Skin can only be stretched so far before it looses some of its ability to snap back. If you’ve had a 9-month pregnancy, then you’ll be able to tighten your loose skin. But if you’ve carried a hundred or more extra pounds for many years, you may be a candidate for plastic surgery to tighten and lift loose skin. This fix should only be used in extreme cases, and I should warn you: my clients who have undergone this operation have actually gained more fat afterwards while they were rehabilitating from surgery!

Bottom Line
As mentioned earlier, elasticity of your skin will naturally decrease with age. Though you can address issues such as not losing weight too quickly, staying properly hydrated, eating the right foods, and caring for your skin, you simply have no control over your age! Quick and dirty tip: Rather than letting age stress you out, you should focus on the things over which you have control—like exercising and eating right—and you’ll find that you always look good.

Whether you have a kangaroo pouch, an orangutan chin, or elephant legs, you can use the tips in this article to tighten loose skin or prevent loose skin in the first place.

Easy In Beauty - 5 Vacation Tips

5 Vacation Easy In Beauty Tips

5 Easy Vacation Beauty Tips

I always tend to overpack when I am heading out of town on vacation. I plan out all of the beautiful outfits I’m going
to dress up in and different ways I am going to style my hair.

The truth is I usually end up only wearing about half of what is actually in my suitcase, and when we are headed somewhere tropical I live in my swimsuit and a sunhat.

The one thing I have gotten down is my vacation beauty regimen. After years of being a “professional traveler” and beauty junkie, I have narrowed down the must-have products while traveling abroad. This list of  beauty tips is more geared for a tropical vacation.

1. Less is more: The less makeup you wear on a tropical vacation, the better. Let  your sun kissed skin and beachy air-dried hair speak for it self.

2. Fab 5: tinted moisturizer, concealer, cream blush, mascara and lip gloss are all you need in your makeup bag while traveling somewhere tropical. Lighten your load and keep it simple.

3. Hydration: The sun and surf wreck havoc on your skin so make sure to moisturize morning and night. I layer on my eye cream at least 3 times a day when I’m traveling and I step up my moisturizer to something a little heavier for nighttime recovery. Try adding a hydrating mist to lock in moisture and refresh your skin throughout the day.

4. Hair Treatment: This is the perfect time to use a hair mask. In fact, your hair is probably screaming for it! I tend to wash my hair more frequently when I’m on vacation and swimming doesn’t do it any favors. I condition with a hair mask every night instead of my regular conditioner. If your hair gets too weighed down, try using one 2-3x on your trip. Your hair will thank you later. I also use a detangler conditioner throughout the day. My hair appreciates the extra TLC from all the salt water and pool chlorine.

5. Protect: Most importantly reapply SPF throughout the day and wear a large sunhat to protect your face. If you want to avoid looking like a dried up raisin I suggest you take this advice to heart.

5 Beauty Blunders That Can Instantly Age You

List of 5 beauty blunders that can instantly age you
It’s a classic case of ‘you always want what you can’t have’. When we’re young we want to look old enough to get into the pub and when we’re old we want to look young enough to be asked for ID at the bottle shop (or just the shock of a co-worker when they receive your 50th birthday invite would suffice). And the way both parties try to do that? Make-up of course!

It makes sense that as we get older some of the beauty tricks we learnt when we were young aren’t going to have the same effect. Products, techniques, colours, all of the things that were once your go-to instant fabulous beauty tricks could actually be adding years to your face. So to help you get one step closer to pulling out that drivers licence, here is a quick list of the common beauty mistakes that age you.

Blusher on the apples of your cheeks

There’s nothing like a nice bronze glow or sweep of rosy pink colour to liven up a dull complexion.  But applying colour to the apples of your cheeks is just going to highlight the sagging of your skin that generally happens around the cheekbones as you age. Instead, suck your cheeks in and sweep your blusher above the indent, up towards your temples. The angle of the blush will make your cheekbones appear more defined.

Loose powder

Loose powder can be dangerous for both young and old. It’s so easy to apply too much and not so easy to reverse the damage. While the worst loose powder can do to youthful, smooth skin is make it look ‘caked on’, loose powder can make ageing skin appear more lined, which is the opposite to what you want make-up to do. So instead of a loose powder try a pressed powder such as Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder.

Dark lipstick

It’s so hard not to be tempted by the amazing plum and merlot shades of lippy, but it’s best to steer clear once you notice your lips aren’t what they used to be. It’s natural for lips to become thinner and loose their youthful plumpness as you age and wearing a dark lipstick only makes them appear thinner and draws attention to the area.  Instead of bold, dark colours choose more flattering shades such as MAC Lipstick in Pink Nouvea and Vegas Volt.

Long, limp hair

It’s no secret that gravity becomes your worst enemy as you age. All of a sudden skin you didn’t even know you had seems to be drooping. Having a long, straight and limp hair cut will only drag you down even further. But don’t worry, you can still keep your long locks if you wish, just have your hairdresser layer it in a way that shapes your face and adds bounce instead of dragging it down. Or if you’re brave try a pixie cut or a flattering lob (long bob).

Skipping the primer

We’ve all heard the famous Napoleon Perdis line ‘It’s a crime not to prime’ and for ageing skin this couldn’t be truer. Primer helps to smooth out lines and creates an even surface for make-up application. It also makes your make-up last longer; which means you can have a more youthful looking complexion without worrying about touch-ups.

Beauty and Aging - Managing the Inevitable

How To Truly Enjoy Your Age - 10 Tips to change your thoughts on age and beauty

Unquestionably, the day you look in the mirror and see a
Beauty and Aging
crop of wrinkles staring back at you can be devastating for your morale. Although those lines of time should signal a life of joyful moments and gained wisdom, women can't help but see them as loss of value and beauty. Even though the Western culture propagates the drive for an eternally youthful appearance, changing the way you think about beauty will not only endow you with life-long confidence but also allow you to feel and look your age...and love it. Dr Vivian Diller and Dr Jill Muir-Sukenick, authors of Face It: What Women Really Feel as Their Looks Change, offer the following 10 tips to change your thoughts on beauty.

THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH DOESN'T EXIST
Despite the hundreds of anti-aging products (and the hundreds of dollars you've likely spent on them), there is no fountain of youth or magic solution to stop the effects of aging. Former models themselves, New York-based clinical psychologist Dr Diller and Dr Muir-Sukenick, a New York City psychotherapist, are acutely aware of how quickly a premium on physical beauty can fade with age. However, both experts worked hard and long to learn how to enjoy their changing appearances. In addition to writing Face It: What Women Really Feel as Their Looks Change, both experts are consultants to the beauty industry and are raising awareness on beauty and aging issues in hopes of helping women everywhere stop devaluing themselves just because they are getting older. Dr Diller and Dr Muir-Sukenick offer these 10 tips every woman can put into practice today.

10 TIPS TO CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS ON BEAUTY

1. BEAUTY IS BEYOND PHYSICAL
Beauty is not just a physical experience, but a psychological one as well. We all tend to think of beauty as a skin-deep issue, all about how we physically look. But research tells us that perception of what is deemed attractive and unattractive is much more complicated. Why do you think some beautiful women say, "I've never thought I was pretty"? Yes, even beauties like Uma Thurman and Michelle Pfeiffer have drawn attention to what they consider flaws. Similarly, there are women who may not be your typical image of beauty, yet when you ask them they say they are quite confident in their looks. Serena Williams never tries to cover up her unconventionally muscular physique: in fact, she flaunts it and somehow it makes her more appealing. What makes people feel attractive goes well beyond our physical self. It runs deep, much deeper than the eye can see.

2. CHANGE YOUR EXPERIENCE OF AGE
Although we can't stop the physical changes of aging, we can change our experience of aging. No one, not any doctor, dermatologist or surgeon can stop physical changes of aging. There may be ways to look better, take care of your skin and bodies that put things temporarily on hold, at least on the surface. We're all for that! We're also for ways we can experience -- and even enjoy -- our changing looks. If we take care of ourselves, it makes us feel better and we smile more. When we smile, we look more attractive. The sooner we go through an interior process, the better you will feel inside and out.

3. YOUR SELF-IMAGE IS DYNAMIC
While aging is inevitable and irreversible, self-image is not. Self-image can be fluid and timeless. Self-image is not an actual still picture of oneself. It is an internal experience, how we see ourselves from within, over time throughout our lives. It's flexible and malleable. And if we understand that self image is changeable, then that is what we try to help women conquer. Not age itself. That's a battle we can't win.

4. BEAUTY IS IN THE "I" OF THE BEHOLDER.
If we become our own internal "eye," we can take control over how we see ourselves, rather than give it over to other people to determine if we're attractive or not. Our six steps serve to change the internal lens through which we see, not only ourselves, but others as well. The result? Women will be less self critical and less critical of each other.

5. CHRONOLOGICAL AGE DOES NOT HAVE TO DEFINE YOU
You can define yourself at your chronological age. A particular age has little to do with how old you feel. You can define how you want to be at 40, at 50 and onward. We also don't have to let magazine images define what is beautiful. Some women in their 20's feel old. Some women in their 60's feel young. It's up to you to define the age you feel.

6. YOUR OUTWARD BEAUTY IS NOT YOUR IDENTITY
Put your beauty in your identity, not your identity in your beauty. Your identity is made up of many aspects of yourself. How you look is just one of them. As you get older, more aspects of yourself can make up your identity; for example, your experiences in life, your accomplishments and your relationships. If you hold onto youthful beauty as a narrow definition of yourself, you're especially unlikely to enjoy your looks as you age. You leave out so many other ways to feel good about yourself.

7. GO BEYOND YOUR MIRROR IMAGE
Take an honest look at who you are, not what you look like. Mirrors tell only a little of what we really look like. Gaze again and go beyond, past your reflection and see who you are as a person. Think of what you see as only the image of yourself, that informs the world of your physical self. But who you are is more than what they see.

8. ROB BEAUTY OF ITS POWER OVER YOU
Take back that power and you will feel more beautiful. Our culture has given beauty power over women. We are told who and what is beautiful. We know that youth is beautiful. Most people see babies as beautiful. But grandmothers can be beautiful as well. Some of the most beautiful women in the world are those who smile, engage and appear happy at any age. If you take back the power of what makes you feel attractive, you will become more attractive to yourself and others.

9. DON'T FEAR YOUR AGE
Become less afraid of aging and you will look more beautiful. When you see a face that is scared, you would hardly call it beautiful. There is nothing pretty about fear. Women need to accept that aging happens and that becoming more courageous about all aspects of our lives will enhance them . . . and all women.

10. BALANCE THE IMPORTANCE OF BEAUTY AND ENJOY YOUR AGE
Beauty matters to all women, but to those who age beautifully, it matters neither too much nor too little. We all know that a core aspect of our identities is our appearance. No doubt our looks matter. But women who allow beauty to matter, but keep it in balance with all other aspects of their lives, can enjoy their looks at any age.

THE BEAUTY BOTTOM LINE
Dealing with your looks as they inevitably change is a psychological process as well as a physical challenge. Master how you think about beauty and the physical changes will come with much more joy. When it comes to your face, your body and your aging process, be smart, be thoughtful and you'll inherently and naturally be more beautiful.

Fashion Tips Latest Beauty Trends Accessories

Should your bag match your shoes? How can a well-chosen scarf or necklace highlight your best features? And how much is too much when it comes to fashion extras? We asked the experts for their top tips for spring accessories.

1. Start small
So you just don't think of yourself as a 'jewellery person'? A well-chosen piece can really lift an outfit, so it pays to start experimenting. 'If you're an accessories novice, buy a piece of jewellery in a base metal - gold or silver - and see how it looks with different outfits,' says personal stylist Lisa Talbot (www.lisatalbot.co.uk). 'This is a great way to start injecting jewellery into your wardrobe. You can build your collection as you become more confident.'

2. Know the score
Concerned you'll end up looking like a Christmas tree if you overdo it with the extras? 'In fact, the majority of UK women don't wear enough accessories,' insists image consultant Gail Morgan (www.studyinstyletraining.com). 'To help you keep tabs, an old trick is to award yourself "accessories points". Score one point for each earring, necklace, bracelet, watch, ring, scarf, patterned or coloured shoe, tights, scarf, belt, handbag or glasses. You should score at least five points for each outfit - but more than 15 points is excessive.'

3. Remember, size matters...
Fashion Tips Latest Beauty Trends Accessories
Always be mindful of your shape and stature when choosing accessories. Some pointers? Personal colour and style expert Jules Standish (www.colourconsultancy.co.uk) advises: 'If you're tall, you can indulge in big statement jewellery, but shorter women should opt for more delicate pieces. Likewise, a large bag in a jewel-bright colour works well for tall women - but if you're more petite, look for smaller styles. Don't let the bag wear you!'

4. Don't make it all about the shoes
Yes, we've all been guilty of falling head-over-heels in love with a pair of gorgeous shoes from time to time. But do try to bear in mind how they'll work with the rest of your outfit, and resist the temptation to wear them at every possibly opportunity. 'This is particularly important in the workplace,' warns Gail Morgan. 'If your shoes are too high, brightly coloured or patterned, people will only look at your feet!'

5. Know when to match - and when not to match
It's that age-old dilemma: should your accessories match? 'In most situations, matching your bag to your shoes or similar is a tad OTT,' warns Gail Morgan. 'But with this season's trend of wearing one strong colour from head to toe, matching accessories can make a statement at a big event. If you're going to a wedding, for instance, you normally have three main extras to deal with: hat, bag and shoes. My advice? Match the colour on two of these items, but keep the third slightly different. So you might go for a neutral or nude pair of shoes, then add a contrasting colour such as pink or red for your bag and hat.'

6. Know your colours
Obviously, you can give a nod to a current trend with your accessories - but just because, say, lemon yellow is hot this season, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the shade for you. So choose wisely! 'Women who wear dark or neutral colours can give themselves an instant facelift and look years younger by adding a coloured accessory,' insists Jules Standish. 'Worn up against the skin, the right shades can even out the complexion and bring out your natural skin tone - making it appear younger and healthier. Warm skin tones suit gold teamed with amber, greens or red; pinker skins suit all shades of blue, purple and pink.'

7. Make your scarf work for you
Choosing the perfect scarf to compliment your outfit is only half the battle: how you wear it matters, too. 'A coloured scarf can be very slimming when worn with a darker tone because it automatically draws the eye away from "negative" areas,' says Jules Standish. 'Women with long long necks can wrap their scarves around their necks - but if you want to elongate a short neck, leave it hanging loose and long. Choose silk for smart, workplace and evening wear; linen or wool/cashmere for a more casual look.'

8. Ensure your accessories work at work
Remember, your accessories can ensure you make the right impression in the workplace, too. 'Why do you think men wear ties?' points out Gail Morgan. 'Well-chosen extras convey a sense of style and indicate that you take care of yourself. Fantastic shoes and bags that are clean and in neutral colours lend an air of professionalism.' Gail's tips? 'A simple, stylish necklace with a largish pendant will draw attention to your face when you're speaking. And if you have short hair, always wear earrings because they add balance.'

9. Go beyond the obvious
It can be tempting to wear your favourite accessories - particularly jewellery - day in, day out. But experimenting with different items and styles can bring your look bang up-to-date with the minimum of effort. Jules Standish suggests: 'Leave your usual necklace in the jewellery box and try one of this season's detachable collars instead. If you're wearing a plain shirt or jumper, look for one embellished with jewels, crystals or beads. Or simply opt for one in a bright colour to make your complexion look wonderfully healthy.'

10. Plan ahead
You know the feeling, you're supposed to have left home five minutes ago but you're still gawping into your jewellery box or staring at a drawer full of scarves, wondering what to wear. 'A great tip is to hang your accessories on the same hanger of a garment you like wearing them with,' says Lisa Talbot. 'Or you could hang all your accessories on the back of your wardrobe door, so they're ready and waiting when you're in a hurry. Style should be fun, not hard work - so the most important thing is to let your personality shine through.'

Really Gross Beauty Habits To Break

4 Habits that are wrecking your beauty routine

Really Gross Beauty Habits To Break
Let's just put it out there — some of our habits are really gross. They seem harmless like biting a nail off, falling asleep with makeup on and getting the gross pus stuff out of your pimple, but in reality, these habits are wrecking your beauty routine.

DO THIS, NOT THAT!
There are so many germs being spread by each of these actions we can't even count that high. I can count to four, though, and so here are four gross habits and four ways you can break them.

1
Don't: Pick… anything!
This includes ingrown hairs, zits and scabs. Did you know that more than a third of the population is also guilty of picking? However, just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean you should. Picking at your scabs, pimples and ingrown hairs can cause infection making things even more complicated! It can also lead to scars.Do: For scabs, just leave them alone — they will take care of themselves! If you get a pimple and just can't seem to quit touching it, put a dab of a clay face mask or hit them with some benzoyl peroxide and you should see it disappearing by the next day. Ingrown hairs? Use a hot compress and some hydrocortisone cream to ease irritation and bring down inflammation.

2
Don't: Put your nails anywhere near your mouth
Did you know the average human touches thousands of surfaces and objects every day? Everybody is touching these things and then going in to clean underneath a nail with their teeth… Ew! I can't even spell the names of some of the bacteria that live under nails but know it's gross.

Do: Wash your hands with warm water and soap and make sure that's when you clean under your nails. It sounds basic but it's so important. Try getting a nail brush to really get under those nails. Find something else to do with your hand other than putting it near your face.

3
Don't: Scratch your dandruff
Not only does scratching your dandruff cause major damage to your hair roots, it also shakes out all those flakes which land on your shirt. Scratching it will make it worse and, to the people around you, it looks gross. If you must scratch, try tapping the area or gently rubbing with your fingertips (not nails) to calm the itch without shaking up the dandruff.

Do: Start taking action to manage your dandruff. The longer you put it off, the worse it's going to get. Try a new shampoo, try a medicated shampoo, increase your B vitamin intake and try to relax and catch up on sleep.

4
Don't: Forget to wash your face
Three things: bacteria, wrinkles and pollution. All of these things are great reasons to wash your face every night before you go to bed. When your head hits the pillow case, you pick up all the bacteria that was left there from the night before plus your pores are clogged so oxygen can't get in to renew the cells. A recipe for wrinkles and pimples.

Do: If time is the issue, try cleansing facial wipes or cloths. It shouldn't take more than one to two minutes to wash off your makeup to save yourself the hassle of pimples or, potentially, wrinkles later on.

We all have bad habits, but who says you can't turn something bad into something good? Try to change your bad habits around and clean up your act, ladies!
